Driven by a love of colour and the open interpretation that abstraction brings, my paintings are an emotive response to the world around me.
Starting with a mood, hue or shape, I work intuitively, filling my canvases with broad brushstrokes. As each piece emerges through layers of paint, I center on making the colours come alive; each work gaining more depth and detail until completion.
At the heart of my art practice, is the desire to create vibrant artworks that brighten our every day. Works of art that generate a positive emotive response and connect with people in a meaningful way.
Motivated by the concept of a more sustainable art practice, I have started a new body of work where I give fresh life to paintings found at secondhand shops. Instead of painting over the original painting entirely, I have set myself the challenge of keeping some aspects of the original artwork intact. I love the concept of transforming a discarded piece of art into something that can be cherished again - but in a way that still celebrates its original life.
I have taken a photo of each painting before I re-work it and have this on display with my
finished piece. This allows the viewer to see what the painting originally looked like and what
aspects still remain; forming a connection with its restorative journey.
