Juliana Duran
My work aims to explore the capabilities and particularities of found materials as a response to “De-growth”, a movement that's core values are to use less and reduce waste. I believe that Art making is in need of a similar concept, in which the circular use of resources is imperative for producing works in the critical context we live in.
The potential of discarded objects gives me a starting point; I approach my projects with the intention of seeing the object as an organism, colour as an entity, and space as a cosmos. With a solid graphic background, my experiments often blur the limits between sculpture, installation and relational art.
My practice does not align with a particular medium, instead I undertake a negotiation with the found materials to explore the different possibilities they offer. Areas of interest and research that regularly inform my work are; the concept of home; the sacred; the relationship between place and space and 'sense of belonging' as a social construction.
