All About Us
RE: USE [Regarding Use] is a recently formed collective of women artists driven by concerns for the environment, their families and the urge to create, all of which require constant tending, energy and material resource.
Along with a growing number of other artists, we choose to work with found and collected cast-off materials to highlight problematic aspects of current modes of production and consumption.
As artists we want to acknowledge our place in the arts production chain, as consumers and producers of stuff. More than that, we want to be part of the solution, encouraging viewers to consider their own habits and the consequences for the planet’s ecosystems.
We choose to embody these new ways of working with the aim of developing sustainable creative practices and demonstrating the material potential of items commonly perceived as ‘waste’.
Through our creative practices, individually and collectively, we explore what is perceived as ‘useful’ and ask questions about ‘use’: the way things are used, the material potential that remains after they've been used and the potential uses beyond those intended.
Why use something only once when it has the potential to be used again? What other purpose might it serve? How could this thing be used again? What else could it become?
